Biochemical assays

From assay concept to lead optimisation

Every screening project comes with its own unique challenges and therefore demands tailored strategies. At the core of each project is the design of robust assays, including biochemical assays. With decades of industry experience, our team excels in designing, developing, executing and interpreting biochemical assays across a wide range of targets, supporting high-throughput screening (HTS) campaigns as well as hit-to-lead and lead optimisation.

Target classes and readouts

Our scientists are highly experienced in developing biochemical assays for all stages of the screening tree, including primary, orthogonal, counter-screen, cross-species, selectivity and mode-of-action assays. We work with a wide range of targets and utilise various readout technologies and modalities. For instance, we have successfully developed HTS-compatible enzyme activity assays, including kinetic, end-point, single and coupled enzyme assays, as well as equilibrium-binding assays for protein–peptide, protein–protein, protein–DNA and protein–RNA interactions.

Our expert scientists develop tailored biochemical assays across all stages of the screening process, using a wide range of targets and readout technologies. From HTS-compatible enzyme assays to equilibrium-binding assays for protein interactions, we deliver versatile solutions to meet your research needs.

HTS assay development

All biochemical assays are customised to align with your project goals, carefully considering your desired mode-of-action and helping ensure that in vitro conditions closely reflect physiological reality. With your project goals in mind, our scientists develop highly effective screening assays to help ensure a successful hit identification campaign. We take into account your desired mode-of-action—whether competitive, orthosteric or slow off-rate compounds—during assay development. To achieve in vitro conditions that best reflect physiological reality, we carefully characterise enzyme binding sites, substrates and co-factors.
